Hello, my name is Laura! I was born in little old New Zealand but moved to Brisbane with my family at a young age.
I was a pretty active little kid with a knack for exploring, but no coordination or common sense to match. I have broken my arms a total of 3 times now and have also had some nasty sprains, bumps and knocks to my hands and upper limbs.
During my pre-teens and teens I also spent a lot of time playing sports including netball, so I learnt a thing or five about having jarred fingers!
I graduated from the University of Queensland (UQ) in 2016 with a class one honours degree in Occupational Therapy, and obtained a rotational position as a therapist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane soon after.
During my time there, I worked in the Hand and Upper Limb trauma unit treating everything from tendon repairs to broken bones to total joint replacements and repetitive strain injuries!
This is where my passion for Hand Therapy bloomed.
I was lucky to work alongside some incredible therapists and leading surgeons and gain experience treating a range of conditions.
Today I work in a Clinical Lead position as a practitioner of Hand Therapy at Advanced Health and Hand Therapy in Townsville, and have done so since moving here 2.5 years ago.
It’s an amazing workplace modelled on the philosophy of continuing growth and development personally and professionally, with the overall goal of improving client care.
I am now SO excited to be working alongside our Certified Hand Therapist, Julie, and the Hands Institute to be able to share this learning (both the style and all the amazing and practical resources that accompany it)…because I have learnt first hand just how well it works!
